Edward Kalkreuter
Edward obtained his B.S. in Chemistry from Emory University where he performed undergraduate research on prostate cancer treatments under Dr. John Petros. In 2013, he moved to North Carolina State University to conduct research under Dr. Gavin Williams. His thesis work centered around two concepts: rational engineering of assembly-line-like polyketide synthases and directed evolution of transcription factor-based biosensors. After earning his Ph.D., he moved to the Florida campus of the Scripps Research Institute (later the Wertheim UF Scripps Institute) to work under Dr. Ben Shen. During his time at Scripps, he obtained the NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein Postdoctoral Fellowship while working on natural products enzymology, synthetic biology, drug discovery, and establishing the 120,000+ strain Natural Products Discovery Center.
He moved to Tallahassee in July 2024 with his two dogs and cat and is starting as an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at Florida State University.
